The Lobby Gallery is pleased to present "T Here," a special collaborative exhibition with NAB Gallery by Chicago artists Ben Dallas and JB Daniel.
With the object of bridging the geographic distance between the exhibition spaces, Daniel and Dallas have created a system of exchange in which NAB Gallery itself is exhibited at Lobby and vice versa. The works accomplish this task with varying degrees of literalism; ranging from Daniel's tiny wire sculptures which map the possible routes between the sites to Dallas' untitled work in which a three inch circle of drywall has been removed from each gallery and replaced with a circle from its counterpart. Other works exchange representations or facsimiles, reduplicating themselves with differing levels of fidelity. Together, these conceptual and technological interventions cause the sites to interpenetrate one another and suggest a mode of thought in which space is no longer a purely physical construction.
Ben Dallas has degrees from Indiana University and the University of Illinois and is represented in several art galleries. He has been a Lecturer at the National Gallery of Art and a Professor at Harper College. Dallas has won many awards and fellowships including a Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship and an Artist in Residence in Berlin.
JB Daniel studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has exhibited his conceptual objects in numerous individual and group shows. Recently, his work has been exhibited at LIPA Gallery and in the Lobby Gallery's exhibition at the 2005 NOVA Young Art Fair.
